About Sunshine Syntropics

Nurturing Land, Nourishing Body, Enriching Soul

At Sunshine Syntropics, our journey began with a profound realisations through our own journey: the interconnectedness of our planet's health and our personal well-being. Rooted in a passion for regenerative agriculture and holistic wellness, we embarked on a mission to cultivate a harmonious relationship between the land and our bodies. Our story is one of transformation, growth, and the unwavering belief that nature's wisdom holds the key to our vitality.

A Seed of Inspiration

The seeds of Sunshine Syntropics were sown when we recognized the symbiotic dance between the health of the soil and the health of our bodies. As we delved into the world of permaculture and regenerative agriculture, we discovered the astounding potential of working with nature rather than against it. This realization sparked a vision to create spaces where both the land and its stewards could thrive.

From Soil to Soul

The guiding of "let food be thy medicine". We saw the undeniable connection between the quality of the food we grow and consume and its profound impact on our well-being. The earth's bounty, when cultivated through sustainable and regenerative practices, holds the power to nourish us in ways we had only begun to fathom. It will not feed you physically it will also feed your soul.

Nature's Wisdom Unveiled

Our journey deepened as we embraced the concept of syntropic farming—a practice that mimics the diversity and resilience of natural ecosystems. With each layer of growth, we uncovered the wisdom embedded within the cycles of life, death, and rebirth. This approach not only rejuvenates the soil but also enriches our lives by providing nutrient-dense, vibrant produce.

Cultivating Wellness, Growing Community

Today, Sunshine Syntropics stands as a testament to the profound connection between regenerative agriculture and holistic wellness. We are committed to not only revitalizing the earth but also revitalizing lives. Our services—consultation, design, implementation, and maintenance—are a reflection of our dedication to nurturing both the land and the individuals who walk upon it.

who we are

Hi, my name is Diogo.

Born and bred in Portugal, I have been living in Australia for 13 years, 6 on the Sunshine Coast. I am father to 3 magical children and partner to an exceptional woman.

I have a background in engineering but over the last years I’ve been pulled away from the corporate world and drawn to growing black, nutrient-dense, life packed soil.

Excited about growing my family’s food, I completed a Permaculture Design Course and haven’t stopped seeking knowledge since.

I found Syntropics, and with it: the link between self-identity and soil; that my soul is indistinguishable from the soil that nurtures it; the vital importance of community and interpersonal relationships; and that my health and wellbeing go way, way beyond the materialistic paradigm I’ve grown up with.

My mission is to get people excited about spending time in the garden, with bare feet, and (without even looking for it) finding their innately divine nature, the connection with themselves.

Wil’s Journey from Healing to Harmony with Nature

Greetings! I'm Wil, and I warmly welcome you to my world—a world where the rhythms of the land and the rhythms of the soul are intricately woven together. My journey is one of transformation, self-discovery, and a profound connection to the healing power of nature. Let me take you through the chapters of my life that have led me to where I stand today.

A Child on the Land:

My story began in the embrace of nature itself. As a young child, I was fortunate to experience the wonders of living close to the land. The gentle rustling of leaves, the vibrant hues of wildflowers, and the soothing hum of the earth nurtured my spirit. Those early years laid the foundation for my deep-rooted connection with nature.

Navigating Life's Challenges:

Life's journey is often sprinkled with challenges, and I found myself wrestling with the complexities of addiction. Struggling to find my footing, I embarked on a path that took me further from the harmony I once knew. But within the darkness, a yearning for healing began to take shape—a yearning that would lead me back to the wisdom of the land.

Reconnecting with the Land:

As I delved deeper into holistic health, a pivotal realization dawned upon me: our connection to the earth is essential to our well-being. I began exploring permaculture and regenerative agriculture, recognizing that healing the land was intricately linked to healing ourselves. The earth's vitality mirrored the vitality within us.

Epiphany: We Are Nature:

Then, like a lightning bolt of clarity, it struck me: we are not separate from nature; we are nature. The boundaries we had constructed between ourselves and the natural world were illusions. We had disconnected from the very source that sustained us. This epiphany ignited a passion to live in harmony with the earth—to honor its cycles, rhythms, and wisdom.

Walking with Nature:

Today, I stand before you as a testament to the transformative power of embracing our innate connection with the land. My journey from addiction to holistic health coach, and from there to a advocate of regenerative practices, has been a profound voyage of self-discovery. I invite you to join me on this path—a path where we walk hand in hand with nature, nurturing the land as it nurtures us in return.

Join Me in Celebrating Harmony:

Together, let's celebrate the harmony that arises when we honor our interconnectedness with the earth. Through Sunshine Syntropics, I offer you not just services, but a philosophy that encapsulates the essence of living in alignment with nature. Join me as we co-create a world where we thrive in rhythm with the land, understanding that when we care for the earth, we are caring for ourselves.

What We Do

Consulting

Consulting

Consulting with Sunshine Syntropics is the first step in materialising your vision for the land.

Embarking on the journey of creating an edible garden is not just about planting seeds and waiting for them to grow; it's a mindful process that begins with understanding the land you're working with.

For the starting gardener, with dreams of a bountiful food forest; or the experienced one, seeking a new perspective, our syntropic consultation offers a holistic approach.

We begin by breathing in the land, reading its contours, accounting for structures and composing elements. We take in its energy and engage with you, the land custodian. By conversing and sharing visions and experiences, the blueprint of a biodiverse and abundant ecosystem is sketched out.

By understanding the project’s unique context (from the “lay of the land” to its custodian’s “wants and needs” and resources), we can select plant varieties that not only thrive in the environment but also contribute to the overall ecological balance.

We aim at creating self-sustaining, biodiverse and increasingly abundant systems… just like a healthy natural forest, which no one ever irrigates or fertilises.

Prior to hugging and saying our goodbyes, we always recommend that you start the practice of immersing yourself in your garden by sitting on a different place everyday, observing, listening to its whispers, understanding its rhythms, and connecting with its energy.

It is in these moments of stillness that you get to tap into the natural wisdom of the land. Lightbulbs light up and the land reveals its secrets, guiding the next steps of your co-creation.

In essence, a syntropic consultation serves as the foundation for a thriving communion with the land. It emphasises the importance of mindfulness, deep listening and collaboration with nature.

By approaching gardening with such reverence and understanding, the custodian sets the stage for sustainable and abundant food producing systems, which not only nourish the body but the soul of those who interact with it.

Design

Design

Based on the insights of the initial consult we draft a blue print of your vision (with a budget for its implementation) and include it in a report.

This document - together with our ongoing support - forms the basis of a dynamic process which has you, the custodian of the land, as the main designer. You are the one who’ll carry the design from concept to its final stage.

The design stage is possibly the most important one.

Given the unique nature of designing living systems, it is a process which transcends mere planning; it is a collaboration between your vision, the land and generations of past custodians’ accumulated wisdom; a partnership we’ll help you shape into a beautiful symphony.

Implementation

This is when the dream comes to life.

When many systems are to be implemented on the property, these should be prioritised and not installed all at once. This way you get to develop a relationship with a living system, ever deeply connecting to it, growing with it, learning from it.

How much more intuitive shall the design of the next system be?

For Sunshine Syntropics, implementing one system at a time doesn’t sound like good business practice but that’s short term thinking. When it comes to nurturing relationships, with both the land and its custodians, we are strong believers in the looooong lifecycle type.

We can’t wait to learn what you have to teach us.

Like the systems we design, it is a syntropic relationship in which we all grow stronger, healthier, happier and with ever increasing returns… abundance in all its dimensions.

Depending on the size of the system, its implementation takes a minimum of 2 days.

On day 1, usually a couple of weeks before the full moon, we undertake the soil preparation works of the system, by bringing life to the soil in the form of the best biodynamic compost in the world.

Day 2 is “Planting Day” (best days ever!) and takes place a few days after the full moon, when all the energy is being pulled into the ground, hence helping the roots going deeper into the soil. Preparing for this day, we encourage the land custodian to invite friends and family to join in and literally put roots on the ground - it is always an amazing experience.

The seeds we sow and the vegetation we plant on that day, are a symbol for the potential of life and sponsor the regeneration of the land and the harmony with all its living beings.

With the groundwork meticulously prepared, we embark on the task of sowing seeds and planting trees that symbolise the potential for life – lives that will seamlessly integrate with the land's natural cycles and rhythms. As each seed and tree is placed into the earth, it is as if we are imbuing the canvas with vivid colors, acutely aware that each plant will play its part in weaving the vibrant tapestry of your envisioned landscape.

Together, as we tread this path, your dream comes to life, and the land itself evolves into a living testament, a tangible reality that epitomises the profound beauty of harmony and regeneration

Maintenance

Our journey does not end on “Planting Day” though. One of our pillars is education and there’s no learning like the learning you get from doing.

A syntropic food forest is 5% planting and 95% management. We will hold your hand (literally too if you want) and show you how to maintain your living system of abundance. That living, breathing organism in your backyard will need to be managed (i.e. pruned and seeded) 2-3 times a year and it is our responsibility to show you how it is done until you develop such a deep and intuitive relationship with your system that we’re no longer needed.

Together, we ensure that your living dream continues to thrive, evolve, and inspire. It's a journey of transformation—for the land, for you, and for the beautiful tapestry of life that unfolds before our eyes.
